The Sunny • Extend & Enhance

This Extend & Enhance project has been warmly nicknamed “The Sunny” after the clients’ desire for a winter space filled with light, warmth and sun.

Working within the constraints of a heritage-listed home and a very compact footprint, the brief was never about building bigger — but about building better: improving comfort, light and connection to daily life.

The design carefully maximises winter solar access and natural light, transforming a modest addition into calm, generous-feeling spaces that support everyday living. High-performance double glazed windows and doors by Kinzel were integrated throughout, while a glass brick shower opening adds a soft, glowing moment — a considered compromise in performance to honour a long-held client wish.

Significant attention has also been given to the building fabric, with insulated slab, upgraded wall insulation, membranes and airtight detailing supporting long-term comfort, durability and efficiency. The builders embraced high-performance construction methods with care and openness, learning and applying new systems throughout the process.
